Preventative Dentistry

Ben Franklin once said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Preventing cavities and decay can not only save time and money.

The Importance of Routine Care

What is prevention? It can be a lot of things, but it is at least 2 actions: proper brushing and flossing your teeth.

It’s so important, in fact, that proper care of your teeth can save your future self thousands of dollars, time and of course, pain. Avoiding gum disease and cavities cannot be overstated and is fairing easy, relatively speaking.

Oral Cancer Examinations

We provide comprehensive oral cancer examinations as part of every hygiene appointment at our office. Oral cancer is often unnoticeable until it spreads throughout the body unless a dentist recognizes the issue early.

Our doctors will look for lesions, bumps, sores, discolored patches of skin, and other potential indicators of oral cancer during your six-month appointment, providing you with valuable peace of mind at Consultants in Dental Aesthetics. We utilize technology which can detect suspicious changes not visible by the naked eye.  Early detection is key.

Treatments for the Prevention of Tooth Decay

FLOURIDE TREATMENTS

Fluoride treatments are a great way to reduce the risk of developing cavities. They are often done for kids, but can be used in patients of all ages. In this treatment, one of our hygienists will apply a fluoride-rich paste or gel to your teeth, leave it in place for a few minutes, then rinse the compound away. The fluoride helps strengthen your teeth and reduces the risk of developing cavities.

DENTAL SEALANTS

Sealants use a liquid resin to prevent the formation of cavities. We will apply the clear resin to your rear teeth. Then, the resin is hardened using a UV light, which creates an invisible, durable barrier. This barrier prevents bacteria, acid, and food particles from contacting the enamel directly, halting the formation of cavities.

Periodontal Care

Gum disease is a serious oral health issue, and one of the leading causes of premature tooth loss in adults. We provide expert periodontal care including deep cleanings (scaling & root planing) and LANAP laser therapy to destroy bacteria and help you recover from gum disease. In addition, our doctors provide gum grafting to help rebuild receding gums, anchor your teeth properly, and reverse some of the effects of advanced gum disease.

Did you know that those who have been diagnosed with periodontal disease are 11 times more susceptible to contracting breast cancer in their lifetime? That is why we have partnered with the National Breast Cancer Foundation and provide periodontal work to those who need it most. If you have been diagnosed with periodontal disease, it won’t go away on its own. Do right by your smile and pay it forward by scheduling your periodontal therapy today and we will donate up to $40 dollars to The NBCF on your behalf.
